"Political Tensions in Kenya Kwanza: Gachagua Points to Unresolved Rivalries"

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has attributed the ongoing internal conflicts within the Kenya Kwanza government to a faction of leaders who have yet to reconcile with the fact that he was chosen as President William Ruto's deputy. Speaking at an event at Kutus Primary School in Kirinyaga County on Saturday, Gachagua shed light on the underlying tensions that have plagued the ruling coalition.

According to Gachagua, this discontented group of leaders had their own preferred candidate for the deputy president position and have been unable to move past Ruto's decision to pick him instead. He revealed that their resistance was so intense that they went as far as to forcefully remove his spouse, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, from the Deputy President's residence in Karen in 2022.

"One of them who never wanted me to be Ruto's deputy even vowed that I would not be picked. He even said, 'over my dead body.' While at Karen, they found my wife Pastor Dorcas there and they chased her away. But Ruto chose me," Gachagua stated. He emphasized that this group's refusal to accept the reality of his appointment has been a significant source of the political strife currently seen within the government.

The Deputy President noted that these internal divisions have been fueled by the same faction that initially opposed his candidacy. "Some of them have never moved on. This politics you are seeing is that small group fueling," he said, pointing out that the continuous infighting is driven by those who have not come to terms with his position in the government.

Gachagua's candid remarks come at a time when the Kenya Kwanza government is grappling with internal disputes that threaten to undermine its cohesion and effectiveness. His comments suggest that personal grievances and power struggles within the coalition are at the heart of the ongoing conflicts.

The Deputy President's revelations have sparked a new wave of discussions about the dynamics within the Kenya Kwanza leadership and the impact of unresolved political rivalries on governance. As the government strives to maintain unity and focus on its development agenda, Gachagua's address serves as a reminder of the challenges posed by internal dissent.

In conclusion, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's assertion that the infighting within the Kenya Kwanza government is driven by disgruntled members highlights the deep-seated tensions that continue to affect the coalition. His call for unity and acceptance of the current leadership structure is crucial as the government navigates these turbulent political waters.
