A Close Call: CS Murkomen Survives Helicopter Scare in Baringo

In a heart-stopping incident, Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Kipchumba Murkomen, found himself in the midst of a harrowing situation on Saturday morning. The CS, accompanied by Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Chairman Caleb Kositany, was onboard a private helicopter when it encountered a mishap during takeoff in Mwachon, Baringo County.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Murkomen and Kositany emerged unscathed, much to the relief of all Kenyans. Addressing the public with a reassuring tone, the CS downplayed the incident as a "small mishap," expressing gratitude to the Almighty for their safety.

The two officials were en route to Nyatike, Migori County, with the solemn objective of offering condolences to KAA Managing Director Henry Ogoye, who had recently lost his beloved mother. Little did they know that their journey would take an unexpected and potentially perilous turn.

As the private chopper, registered as 5Y-PKI, attempted to take off, something went awry, causing substantial damage to its landing gear. The aircraft, though privately owned, had been hired by Murkomen and Kositany for their transportation needs on this particular trip.

Swiftly, law enforcement officials were summoned to the scene to secure the badly damaged helicopter and ensure the safety of all involved. Images from the site depicted the gravity of the situation, with the chopper's landing gear visibly compromised.

Despite the harrowing ordeal, Murkomen and Kositany remained steadfast in their mission, ultimately arriving safely in Nyatike to fulfill their intended purpose of offering condolences to the grieving KAA Managing Director.

In a statement laced with gratitude, Murkomen acknowledged the near-miss, saying, "We had a small mishap, and we thank God we are safe. Arrived safely in Nyatike, Migori County with the Chairman Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) to condole with our KAA MD Henry Ogoye who lost his loving mother."

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with air travel and the importance of maintaining the highest safety standards. As investigations into the cause of the mishap continue, Kenyans can breathe a collective sigh of relief, grateful that their Cabinet Secretary and the KAA Chairman emerged unscathed from what could have been a far more tragic outcome.
