Reasons Why Two MPs Went Missing in Tana River County and How They Were Rescued Revealed

In a dramatic turn of events, Garsen MP Ali Wario and Galole counterpart Said Hiribae, who went missing on Saturday night in Tana River County, were found in the early hours of Sunday morning. The parliamentarians, accompanied by aides, were on their way back from a flood relief distribution mission when their boat, carrying a total of 16 people, lost direction in the swollen Tana River.

"Today we were on a rescue mission in Mnazini area and as we were going back we got lost in the river. So we are in the middle of the waters, we don't know the directions. We do not know where we are now," said Wario in a video plea for emergency assistance around 10:30 pm, shared by journalist Lizah Mutuku.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki assured the public, stating, "Security agencies have established contact with a passenger in the boat that went missing earlier this evening in the waters of Tana River. All the eighteen passengers and crew are so far safe but are stranded at a yet-to-be-established location. A multi-agency search and rescue mission spearheaded by the Kenya Coast Guard is underway overnight."

Fortunately, all 18 passengers and crew, including the MPs, were eventually located in the Feji area during the early morning hours. While the parliamentarians are now safe, the Kenya Red Cross continues its efforts to evacuate villagers marooned by the surrounding floods. The incident underscores the challenges posed by the ongoing floods in the region, emphasizing the need for coordinated rescue efforts to mitigate the impact on affected communities.

As the flood relief mission turned into a perilous ordeal, the discovery of the MPs and their companions in the early morning hours brings a sense of relief. The incident highlights the unpredictable nature of rescue missions during severe weather conditions and the importance of prompt and well-coordinated response efforts. As the region grapples with continued flooding, the safe recovery of the MPs underscores the ongoing challenges faced by communities and the need for sustained efforts to address the impact of adverse weather conditions.
