Danstan Omari: Why Kisii Community Should Not Pay Tax

In a confrontational press conference, prominent lawyer Danstan Omari, known as the "baby daddy lawyer," launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto's administration, alleging discriminatory practices against the Gusii community. Omari boldly proposed that Kisiis, originating from the Gusii region, should be exempt from paying taxes, citing their perceived exclusion from the current government.

The lawyer directed his criticism particularly at Nyamira County, asserting that it has become a focal point of the Kenya Kwanza administration. Omari highlighted recent events, including scrutiny of schools in the region during national examinations, with Nyambaria High School's academic success drawing attention.

Expanding his critique to the treatment of parastatal heads from the Gusii community, Omari cited the case of Margaret Nyakang’o. According to him, Nyakang’o and others have faced discrimination, a violation of Article 27 of the constitution, which prohibits discrimination based on race or tribe.

"The only constitutional office holder from the Kisii community is Margaret Nyakang’o. She has been hounded out of office. None of the Kisiis has ever been appointed a PS (Principal Secretary). This is a government of shareholding, and it is very clear that the Kisiis are not shareholders in this government," asserted Omari.

The lawyer staunchly defended Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o, emphasizing her thorough vetting processes and approval from the former president. Omari expressed concern over what he perceived as a concerted effort to remove Nyakang’o from her constitutional office, potentially invoking Article 251. The accusations raise significant questions about inclusivity and fair representation within the current administration.

Omari's impassioned statements shed light on broader concerns about equitable representation and opportunities for various communities within the Kenyan government. As the nation grapples with these issues, the accusations underscore the importance of addressing perceived inequalities to foster a more inclusive political landscape.
