The collision transpired at approximately 9:30 pm on Saturday when a matatu bound for Kisumu collided with a sugarcane-laden tractor.

Tragically, four passengers lost their lives in the collision, while eight others managed to survive the ordeal. Among the survivors was Morris Otieno Okoth, who, along with his family, was returning from his daughter's graduation at Chuka University. Recounting the moments leading up to the accident, Okoth highlighted the matatu's excessive speed and a previous swerving incident at Salgaa along the Nakuru-Kericho highway.

Okoth described the driver's attempt to avoid a potential head-on collision, resulting in a perilous maneuver. As the journey continued, the matatu driver abruptly applied the brakes, causing disorientation among the passengers. Okoth sustained chest injuries during the sudden stop.
