Kimani Ichungwah Calls Out Azimio Leader To Stop Demonstration After People Did This to Express Way

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah has strongly condemned the destruction of property by protestors and emphasized the need to put a stop to it using any means necessary. He expressed his disbelief that such acts of vandalism could be considered peaceful demonstrations, particularly in response to a video showing protestors damaging parts of the Nairobi Expressway.

Ichungwah also criticized the media, warning that they would likely blame the police for the resulting chaos, despite it being the protestors' actions.

The protests were organized by the Azimio movement to voice grievances over the high cost of living caused by the recently enacted Finance Act of 2023. On Wednesday, protestors forcibly removed the barrier on the Expressway near Mlolongo, with some pulling it down while others shouted and jumped around. The anti-government demonstrators also blockaded the Mombasa Highway at the exit point of the Nairobi Expressway in Mlolongo, Machakos county, disrupting transportation and causing significant traffic congestion along both routes.

Moja Expressway issued a statement announcing the temporary suspension of toll services at Mlolongo, Syokimau, and SGR Toll Stations on the Nairobi Expressway due to the ongoing demonstrations. The company assured the public that efforts were underway to restore normalcy to the road.
